According to American vehicle folklore, Chevrolet introduced what we now term the “SUV” in 1935 when the Suburban Carryall hit the streets. Eighty-five years later, all sorts of drivers are looking for a Chevy dealership to learn everything they can about the exciting new lineup of Chevrolet SUVs. Frank Kent has all of the 2020 model info you need to make a thoroughly informed decision regarding all of the new offerings.
From our home base in Ennis, TX, we’ve got our finger on the Chevy pulse, which includes all of the updates to the Trax, Equinox, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe, and Suburban. 2020 is an exciting model year at your local Chevy Dealership, with loads of trim enhancements, luxurious limited editions, and packages that help you create the SUV of your dreams. Whether you plan to hit the open road this summer or need to shuttle the team across town three days a week, Frank Kent can help you decide which 2020 Chevy SUV model is right for you.
Trax is often credited with being a “starter” SUV, due to its lower MSRP. That’s not to say this vehicle is overly simple or basic. The 2020 model provides roomy seating for up to five and has a maximum cargo space of 48.4 cubic feet with a 60/40 folding rear seat.
All three trim levels, the LS, LT, and Premier, feature a highly-capable turbocharged 1.4L four-cylinder engine that offers 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. This model has a fuel economy of 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. This engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and while the Trax is front-wheel drive, drivers can opt for all-wheel drive when building their ideal model at a nearby Chevy dealership.
The base LS trim includes 16-inch alloy wheels and a variety of helpful convenience-oriented features. This includes automatic headlights, manual-folding mirrors, a rearview camera, and adjustable lumbar adjustment on the driver’s seat. The infotainment system includes a 7-inch touchscreen, OnStar capability with 4G LTE WiFi, and two USB ports. Those looking to add tinted windows and cruise control can add the “Tint and Cruise” package to LS.
The LT trim includes both tint and cruise, and adds features that can help in the long haul, including roof rails, heated mirrors, LED daytime running lights, remote start, and a 110V outlet. Added storage is available under the passenger seat, and a cargo cover adds a level of security to objects you wish to stow. An optional Convenience package includes a premium cloth/faux leather interior, keyless start and entry, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
The Sun and Sound package adds a sunroof and a seven-speaker Bose premium audio, while the Driver Confidence package adds safety features like blind-spot viewing, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors. The Redline Edition is a limited appearance package that decks LT out in black wheels, mirror caps, grille, and moldings with red accents throughout.
Lastly, the Premier takes it all the way to the top, with 18-inch wheels, leather-like upholstery, heated front seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and enhanced safety features, such as forward collision and lane departure warnings.
Equinox offers seating for five, and a larger cargo volume than Trax, with up to 63.9 cubic feet. Equinox is also capable of towing a maximum load of 3,500 pounds when properly equipped; those looking to tow small loads will want to check the 2020 model info in detail.
This vehicle offers a choice of two engines. A standard 1.5L turbocharged engine, which offers 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque, is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. The high powered optional engine is a 2.0L turbocharged engine, which offers 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This souped-up version is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Much like the Trax, the Equinox comes as a front-wheel drive vehicle; however, all trims but the base L can be purchased in four-wheel drive. Equinox has a fuel economy of 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.
Trims include the L, the LS, the LT, and the top Premier. The L includes a wide variety of standard safety technology, including automatic high beam headlamps, a rearview camera, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. It also includes automatic headlights, heated mirrors, keyless entry and start, and a full infotainment system that includes Bluetooth, a six-speaker audio system, a 7-inch touchscreen, and OnStar with 4G LTE WiFi.
The LS is offered in a greater range of colors and adds the all-wheel drive option. It also has an available Convenience package, which adds features such as a power-adjustable driver’s seat and rear window privacy glass.
The LT trim adds xenon headlights, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, rear seat release levels, and upgraded infotainment features. There are two available packages for the LT: an Infotainment package that enhances the already upgraded display and a Confidence and Convenience package that includes a power liftgate, heated front seats, and blind-spot alerts.
The Premier includes the features of the LT plus added packages but also adds wireless device charging, driver’s seat memory, and premium packages such as Confidence and Convenience II (which features a 360-degree parking camera), and Infotainment II (which includes the premium Bose sound system).
The 2020 Blazer includes a bit more cargo room than Equinox, but increasing towing capacity to 4,500 pounds. With six trims, the L, LT1, LT2, LT3, RS, and Premier, there are plenty of choices to be made for Blazer drivers, so be sure to consult with a Frank Kent expert for the super-detailed 2020 model info.
The L and 1LT trims include a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that offers 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. The 2LT and 3LT feature a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that increases the power to 230 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The RS and Premier offer a beastly 3.6L V6 that offers 308 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque––this engine is also an option for the 2LT and 3LT. All engines include nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, though the 2.0 and 3.6L engine options can be available with all-wheel drive.
The L trim starts with 18-inch wheels, xenon headlamps, keyless start and entry, one USB, and USB-C port each in the front and rear, as well as heated mirrors and the fully-equipped standard infotainment system. 1LT adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat, spare tire, and satellite radio. The only addition made by the 2LT package is the upgraded engine and option for all-wheel drive. The 3LT features roof rails and a power liftgate, as well as luxury elements like leather upholstery, heated front seats, power adjusting passenger seat, and auto-dimming mirrors. Safety features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are also added to the 3LT.
The RS will really stand out at a Chevy dealership, as it has been given a sporty look in 2020, which 20-inch wheels, dual exhaust tips, and a blackout grille. Inside, drivers will enjoy additional USB/USBC ports, a 110V power outlet, adjustable cargo containment, heated steering wheel, and hands-free liftgate. Premier takes RS’s features up a notch with chrome, power steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, faux suede, and an elite Bose sound system.
While the lower trims can be upgraded to include the more luxurious features of the RS and Premier trims, drivers can also choose upgraded safety packages. These packages include technology like a 360-degree parking camera, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. A Safety Alert Seat is also an option, with warnings that buzz the driver’s seat, rather than sounding alarms or flashing small alerts.
The Traverse is where Chevy turns its SUVs into total beasts, so be sure to stop by a Chevy dealership near you if you have the need to haul up to 8 passengers, 98.2 cubic feet of cargo, or up to 5,000 pounds of trailer.
The Traverse is offered in seven trims: L, LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premier, and High Country. All trims are equipped with a single engine option, following the discontinuation of the 2019's turbo option. The 3.6L V6 engine, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, offers 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque and has a fuel economy of 18 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway.
The L is a fleet-only model, so it may not appear on our lots in vast quantities. The LS is a very similar model and includes 18-inch wheels, cloth interior, a rearview camera, a full infotainment system with WiFi, and optional all-wheel drive.
When choosing the LT trim, the second-row bench seat is replaced with captain’s chairs, though those who need the eighth seat can opt back into the bench seat. The Cloth trim offers a Safety and Entertainment package, while a Trailering package adds a hitch and a vehicle cooling system that improves hauling capability. The Leather version upgrades the upholstery, and also adds access to the Premium trim, which adds navigation and a top-down parking camera.
The RS trim is essentially the LT Leather trim with the addition of the Premium trim, but with a sporty visage. This model includes 20-inch wheels, a blackout grille, and a distinct appearance with an RS-specific bowtie emblem. The Premier adds a hands-free liftgate, ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad, and the option of a sunroof. The High Country makes that sunroof standard, and adds adaptive cruise control and standard advanced all-wheel drive.
Tahoe seats up to 9, has room for up to 94.7 cubic feet of “stuff,” and can tow up to 8,600 pounds, making it a highly capable vehicle for a variety of scenarios. There are also many optional packages available on its three trim levels, so be sure to visit Frank Kent, the Chevy dealership near you, to view each of the 2020 Tahoe models in person.
The Tahoe comes equipped with a 5.3L V8 engine that offers 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The optional 6.2L V8 engine is only available at the Premier trim level but offers a mighty 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, which is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission.
The LS trim is the only version of Tahoe that features three bench seats for up to nine passengers, so those who need a “people mover” take note. It also includes power-adjustable front seats, three climate zones, and remote engine start. The Enhanced Driver Alert Package is available for those requiring a more robust range of safety features.
The LT trim includes leather upholstery and heated front bucket seats with memory features. Drivers will enjoy the premium Bose nine-speaker sound system, as well as safety features like lane keep assist, automatic high beams, and forward collision alert technology. The LT optional packages include the Midnight Edition, which features a sporty black appearance. The RST, which adds the sportiness of Midnight with wheel locks and all-season tires, a Luxury package that adds power splitting second and third row seats, as well as keyless open and start, and a Max Trailering package, which includes a tow-ready axle ratio and suspension. These are just a few of the LT optional packages, however.
The Premier trim Tahoe features access to the more powerful engine, which is included in the Premier Plus Edition. It also includes adaptive Magnetic Ride Control suspension, which matches the ride to the road, and ventilated seats.
The Chevy Suburban remains at the top of Chevy’s SUV lineup in 2020. This vehicle includes seating for up to nine, over 120 cubic feet of cargo space, and a towing capacity of up to 8,300 pounds.
The Suburban is well-equipped at every trim level, as the flagship model of Chevy’s SUV lineup. The LS and LT trims feature a 5.3L V8 engine that offers 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Premier trim includes Magnetic Ride Control suspension, as well as the option of 6.2L EcoTec V8 engine that offers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
Much like the Tahoe, the LS trim is the only option for seating for nine. It also includes cloth seating, automatic climate control, and the Chevy Infotainment system, featuring an 8-inch touch screen and Bluetooth connectivity. The LT adds leather seating, premium audio features, and additional safety technology, including lane-departure warning and forward collision alert. You'll also find an array of optional packages, including Sun, Entertainment, and Destinations, which includes navigation, a sunroof, and a Blu-ray entertainment system for the rear seats, the Luxury package, the Driver Alert package, which adds automatic forward collision braking, automatic high beams, and lane keep assist, as well as an RST Edition, Max Trailering Package, and more.
The Premier trim includes even more safety technology, including rear cross traffic alert and blind-spot alerts, heated and ventilated seats, as well as access to the more powerful engine for greater towing capacity.
